Being there
(More blog entries from kellykelly)
This isn't picking out favorites - these are just the moments that stand out in my mind that have really made me happy to just be a part of this since we opened.
- Watching the environmental design canopy swope away and hearing the crowd cheer opening night.
- Dancing in the aisles to the music of the play Hostages - "wait for it... wait for it..." - and then that guitar riff
- Every time Alex, playing Jasper in At the Seashore, gets "serious"
- Yeasayer calling James our lighting Designer "Light Lord" for the amazing light show he's been giving the bands
- People telling me over and over how much the love the film Death to the Tinman
- Monday night's double duty of laughter betweeb the film Blackballed and the play Like I Said My Name is Shells
- The dancing in The Girl Detective. Brings new meaning to giving it 150%
- People rushing in to see Beef because they know about the Jay Z vs. Nas beef
- And then of course - Adam from Glue. They drove down from New Hampshire to play our show and on a cold Tuesday night got people sweating on stage. HOT.
The VIP Lounge has been a huge hit and its not unusual to find the artists hanging out with audience in the lounge.
Last night's Halloween party really took me by surprise. We weren't originally suppose to do a show on Halloween but then Abrons asked us to add the nights. Whole Foods Market stepped up and created a truly special party - and to say they went all out was an understatment. So despite a city filled with numerous Halloween parties, haunted houses and a frickin' parade, Crown Point saw an audience as big as opening night and partied on stage.
My adreneline didn't quit 3 am. I couldn't sleep thinking about how the night had gone off. And I slept. I just want to say for the record, that our crew is doing an incredible job. I wonder if people realize how hard this is for them to do these crazy transitions - it is not easy - and they really rally time and again to make it happen.
I really don't know if there are enough thank you's in the world for me to give to all the artists, staff and crew that are making this possible. But seriously, thank you.
If you haven't yet come down, I hope you will soon. The nights are only going to get bigger.
PS: The State of Downtown Theater Panel was incredible! We could have talked for hours the conversation was so engaging. I highly recommend you check out the 2 this weekend: State of LES Music and How to be a working DJ.
