2) Very Important Point: The state of the 2008 Crown Point Festival.  This is not easy – it never was.  But the reality is that we cannot do what we did last year.  And in some ways, that’s a good thing.  Like making the nights super streamlined and perfect for an audience to sit through and then hang out afterwards and party.  What some people didn’t know, and now I release to the word for judgement and scrutiny is just how much sometimes this thing doesn’t happen.  And I swear, this is not me being dramatic.  Look, it’s really humbling when people think I somehow willed this into being.  Here’s the secret: it’s not me.  It’s you.  It takes all of you.  It takes the people who donate to us, the sponsors, the grants, the Board, the Junior Board, the artists, the media partners, and things magically falling into place at the right time.  I learned along time ago that this has very little to do with me – I am simply a vessel for this to funnel through.  But without all of you – this doesn’t fly.  And when one of those components gets hit, it can impact this growing little organization on a big level.  And we’ve experienced that, big time.  I am watching artists being patient – and sometimes rightfully pissed – while watching Junior Board members rise to the occasion like seasoned event pros.  But what I love is when the Board gets together and says, we believe in this and we are gonna find a way to make this happen again. And so this means that this year’s festival will be shorter – but not any less intense.  I like to think of it as Crown Point, Concentrated.  So in some regards it will be more competitive to get in; less days, less chances to get in.

3) This is because I just want to talk about it: Death Cab for Cutie as McCarren Pool.  This was looking to be your standard summer show until… Ben Gibbard started getting pissed at technical difficulties and then he got real.  And it was awesome.  The best part: So they start playing “The Sound of Settling” and for the first time in a 3 day heat wave the temperature suddenly drops, the wind starts going nuts, and with every “Bah baa” the banners and the lights and everything is swinging and the audience is going surging and swaying with the wind and with the music and the band is going nuts and it’s the most exciting, exhilarating – and you’re dying wanting more and more and more… and the tech director comes out and says, everybody look behind you and start making you’re way out of here immediately because The Storm is coming.  And it looks like some kind of world of destruction sky. It takes for everyone to leave the pool and everything around everyone is blowing and swirling but if we could have all had our way we would have stayed and begged for more. So as my friend Devon and I walked with the herds to the subway in the rain, a group behind us started taunting the storm, “Is this all you’ve got?” And with that a bolt of lighting hit the light post near us and sparks flew everywhere. And Devon and I are running and laughing and getting soaked and everybody is laughing and screaming. And it was the best end to a concert. God I love it when things get real.  I wish you all happy summer concert going.
